The arcade racers that actually work on a phone

Racing games and touchscreens have a complicated relationship. Tilt controls feel loose, on-screen buttons block the view, and half the games just give up and go full auto-drive. After weeks of testing, a handful genuinely nailed it.

The trick is handling that forgives you. Games like Drift Canyon Rush build their whole feel around long drifts, so a slightly imprecise input still looks and feels great. That's smart design for a device you hold in your hands on a moving train.

I'd skip anything that demands pinpoint braking through on-screen buttons. It almost never works well in practice. Look instead for games with generous assists you can switch off once you've got the hang of it.

My advice: always try the first race before you decide. If steering feels fun in the tutorial, it'll feel fun for hours. If it fights you early, it won't get better.
